A Loyal Gentlemen

IMG_9116.PNGA few days ago, I asked my mom to tell me the story of how my dad proposed to her. I had realized before that I didn’t know the story, and my dad had been fairly stingy in the past with how much information he gave. He usually is. So I asked my mother, and she proceeded to talk to me for about half an hour about their relationship in high school, how they broke up and reunited countless times during their college years, and finally how they eventually tied the knot. She gave me much more to the story than just the proposal, but I didn’t mind it because I was interested to learn about what got them to where they are now.

Recently I’ve found myself thinking frequently about the person of God – who He is, what His attributes are, and what these things mean for me. I’m eager to learn about Him, as I would think most people would be eager to learn about their parents. Here are a few of the things I’ve found.

1. God is loyal.
As humans, we all make mistakes. We make quite a lot of mistakes, actually. We lie, cheat, steal, and often we forget about our Creator. We go through life on our own, not thanking God for the blessings we have, not remembering Him until we’re in trouble. The amazing thing about this, though, is God NEVER forgets us. Even when we go through periods of doing things without Him, He is always there. “If we are faithless, He will remain faithful.” – 2 Timothy 2:13

2. God is a gentleman.
My mom used to tell me this when I was little. God doesn’t force Himself into our lives, He stands at the door and knocks (Revelation 3:20). We have to be willing to hear Him and let Him into our lives. But, like I said before, He won’t leave us. When we’re ready to let Him in, He’ll be there. How encouraging!

3. God is limitless.
There is nothing that God can’t do. I think about moments in my life where I’ve felt helpless and I thought that nothing would be okay, and it’s amazing to now look back and see how God was working the whole time. There is no situation that He can’t handle, no challenge too great for Him. No matter the circumstance, He will sustain you (Isaiah 46:4).

4. God is Love.
God is love personified. There is no greater love in the universe than the love God has for us. How incredible is that? He covers us with His amazing love, and in it we find rest, we find peace, we find happiness, we find restoration, we find healing, and we find never-ending, amazing grace.

These are only a few of the things that make God who He is, but I’m learning more about Him as I study His Word. He is my Father in Heaven, my Hope, and my Salvation. And, as the song goes, He is altogether lovely. 🙂

Stay sweet,
Caroline
