Trust Fall

Whenever it comes to trusting God, it feels like you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place.

We are constantly battling with situations in our everyday lives, that it often gets hard to trust God through the pain. Trusting in God feels like a lot like that “trust fall” game people used to play, where you just fall and aren’t sure if someone is going to catch you, that’s really the thrill of it all when it comes to games, but in this life that “thrill” is scary — dangerous even.

NOT trusting in God and feeling like you’re going in blind often leads to discouragement and doubt. Part of having a healthy spiritual life is learning how to trust in the Lord and His promises in spite of our situation.

How do I trust God?

1. Lose your fear.

Sometimes what we are facing can be scary, and it’ll seem like your fear is bigger than anything you can overcome. Proverbs 29: 25 says “The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trust in the Lord shall be safe.” God is our protector, therefore there is nothing we should be afraid of. With God how can you fail? Letting go of your fear is the beginning to trusting Him because you are taking a leap of faith, we have to rise up to this challenge and realize that with God on our side, we are safe.

2. Building your faith.

Your relationship with God shouldn’t be situational. We need to be realistic, believing in God doesn’t mean our lives are perfect, challenges will come and we need to build our faith based on His faithfulness. God is unchanging, regardless of what we may be going through, living this truth, building your faith on God’s promise is what will help you grow. Philippians 4:12 says “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.”

3. Know God.

This is my final point because this covers so many aspects if trusting in God. Knowing God, developing a deep intimate relationship with God is part of building your trust. Do you trust someone you don’t know? In trusting God you have to invest time in knowing God. How? Having a prayer life, really talking to God as if He’s right in front of you. He desires to know you so you can get to know Him. Reading the word, this is has helped me to know God on another level because filling myself up with the word I don’t have room for anything else.

No fear, no lie — nothing stands in my way when I truly know God’s love for me along with the promises and truths residing in His word.

James 4:8 says “Draw near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify our hearts you double minded.”

Focus on knowing God and submerge yourself in His word. At the end of the day trusting in God is an ongoing process, but it doesn’t have to feel like you are falling, not knowing whether you’ll crash or fly. With God you will always fly. Losing your fear, building your faith and getting to know God are wonderful ways to learn to trust Him. His plans are always better than anything we can imagine. Trusting in God means letting go of worry, not digging in doubt what we’ve planted in faith.
